ENGINEERING AND WRITING!

I was born in the stunningly beautiful Indian hill station of Naini Tal, high in the foothills of the Himalayas. On coming to England after India became independent, I attended school in Wimbledon before going on to study electrical engineering at Kingston Technical College. During this period, one of my industrial assignments was at Kingston Power Station – an experience that led to an enduring involvement with large plants such as power stations, ships and water treatment works. After reaching the position of Engineering Director of Bailey Meters and Controls Ltd., Croydon, I left to work as an independent consultant - a pretty tough decision! I managed to survive for 20 years at that game and was fortunate to be involved with many projects in the UK and overseas..

It was working around the globe that gave me the idea of writing a series of novels based on the colourful people I have encountered in my career.

I am married and live with my wife Jo on the outskirts of London. We have three sons, two granddaughters and two grandsons.

My family history.

My paternal great-grandfather was George Lindsley,  who was a Travelling Locomotive Superintendent with the Great Western Railway. He died in Swindon in 1878.

He had six sons and three daughters. One of his sons, Mark, made his way to India where my father Reginald was born in 1896. Mark died in 1935 and my father in 1969.

My mother was Esther Hay - which gives me my Scottish links (and the right to wear a kilt!). She was born in India in 1900 and died in England in 1976.
